Vincennes University Sees Rise in Mining
The director of Vincennes University's mining program says interest in the program has been steadily growing. Ron Bucci says recent announcements like the planned coal mine in Gibson County show prospective students that jobs are available in the industry. Bucci says the program has grown to almost 7,000 students.
The program at Vincennes includes safety certification, recertification and management programs. Bucci says the coal mining industry is at least remaining level and could be seen as growing in Indiana.
Gibson County Coal LLC says its new mine will employ more than 300 miners. Bucci says another planned mine in Jasonville will provide additional jobs.
